Kindle Fire Review | Nook Tablet vs Kindle Fire
This November, we have two of the hottest tech items coming out… The Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet. These two inventions are bringing tablet technology in the hands of more people because they have brought down the price from $500 to $200. However, which one is better? *Note* I will be putting up a detailed video review around November 17th, until then, here are all the specs and features!
Nook Tablet vs Kindle Fire
We will be breaking down every popular category of these popular tablets, and declaring an overall winner! However, we will also be highlighting the features, and making sure you can make an educated consumer decision.

Reading
Both the Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet offer every single book you could possibly want. They both offer over a million free older texts as well. They also both offer a free book per week or month in their “Free Friday” program or with Amazon Prime. I also compared dozens of book prices, and while some are different, they end up averaging out to be nearly the same. The only side benefit, is with Amazon Prime, you can get 2-day shipping on tons of products on Amazon. However, as far as reading is concerned, each can download books in seconds, and the reading is smooth, with note taking possible on both. Tie game in the reading category.
Winner: Both the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet
(both great for reading)
TV Shows and Movies
Killing time has never been easier now that we can stream movies and TV shows on tablets. Whether to occupy yourself on the train, bus, plane, or your kids in the back seat, this is a very useful feature. The Kindle Fire offers Amazon Prime membership which gives you a huge selection of TVs and movies at $79/yr. The Nook Tablet gives you access to Netflix and Hulu Prime, which they have no announced on their Barnes N’ Noble site how much it will cost. If their rates stay the same, it will be well over $100 combined. However, we can assume that the Nook Tablet has cut some sort of deal, so we aren’t sure on this one. However, one sweet feature of the Kindle Fire is that you can be watching a movie on the train, pause it, and then continue it on your big screen TV at home with whispersync technology. This is a huge feature for many, so we have to give the Kindle Fire the advantage with the information we have and the extra added technology.
Winner: Kindle Fire
Speed and Screen Display
Both the Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet are fast. Both come with duel core processors and a gigabyte of ram. For the non-techie types, this is more than enough for watching a high def movie, or browsing the web while you listen to music. However, we aren’t sure which one is faster just yet, because they haven’t released them to the public yet. I will be putting a detailed video review of both side by side in a couple weeks (late nov). Each have over 16 million colors with a 7 inch touch screens, with 170 ppi. We see this as a tie overall.
Winner: Both Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet
Storage
Both the Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet offer cloud storage past their internal storage. For those of your unfamiliar with “cloud storage”, it means that you have your own extra storage outside of your tablet that you can access at any point. This is extremely convenient for anyone with hundreds of gigabytes of data. The Kindle Fire states it can hold “80 apps, plus 10 movies or 800 songs or 6,000 books.” The Nook Tablet has over twice the storage, and has expandable SD storage, therefore it has a lot more storage than the Kindle Fire. However, as can see, you can put a lot of date on the Fire, so unless you will be outside of wifi range for a very long time… think weeks, then this shouldn’t be an issue. Since with both, you can stream your movies, or trade music with your cloud storage. However, we still have to give this one to the Nook!
Winner: Nook Tablet
Audio
Both the Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet have stereo headphone jacks. However, if you wish to listen to music, a TV show, or a movie using the speakers, the Kindle Fire takes the cake. The Kindle Fire gives you a stereo speakers at the corners while the Nook Tablet only gives you a mono speaker. Kindle Fire vs Nook Tablet… winner… Kindle Fire!
Winner: Kindle Fire
Price
The cost of the Kindle Fire is $199 while the Nook Tablet goes for $249. Why is the Kindle Fire cheaper, and slightly better? The reason is because they are actually taking a loss or breaking even on the tablet sale, but with Amazon Prime membership and other books, movies, shows you are going to buy, they will make money in the long run. The Nook Tablet has to be affiliated with Netflix, Hulu and other programs to cash in that way. Nook Tablet vs Kindle Fire - chalk this one up for the Kindle Fire
Winner: Kindle Fire
Overall Winner in the Kindle Fire vs Nook Tablet War?
The overall winner is the Kindle Fire. It brings more to the table, while the only category that the Nook Tablet beats the Kindle Fire in, is the storage capacity. However, since only 1% of people are really traveling for well over a week without access to wifi, this isn’t a big deal. Most hotels, airports, houses, coffee shops, restaurants, and more have wifi access. Even if you don’t have wifi access, the odds of you watching 6 movies, playing a dozen apps, listening to loads of music, surfing the net, AND wanting more… AND being able to charge your tablet, yet not access wifi, is almost zero. The cost of another $50 and the loss of other cool features, isn’t worth it in our opinion.
